Understudy
Understudy is a live-stream redundancy project for teams that can't buy dedicated broadcast infrastructure. It uses the networks already in the room: Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or even a phone hotspot.
It keeps a stream alive by running two different networks at once: a full-quality primary and a reduced-bitrate backup. If the primary network drops, the backup is already live at the receiver, so failover can happen instantly.
The name comes from theater: the primary is the lead, and the backup is the understudy. It knows every line, but only takes the stage if the lead can't perform. Theater and live production aren't too different!
